I'm not sure if I have said yet, but I am a pharmacy student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. LECOM is a pretty good school - I would say that they are a little tight in terms of how they run there operation (no drinking water in class, security passes, etc), but overall a good school with a good education. I went in and talked to a person at St. Vincent's Health center today and they said that LECOM has not been getting a lot of good publicity as of lately: something about a student with pornography on their computer or something.
It is unfortunate when any one person represents a whole body of people in a bad light. I think it is important when this happens, to try to remember and put things in perspective. For example, A-Rod has gotten caught doping: that doesn't mean that every baseball player that ever played has gotten caught doping. Likewise, not every black person loves Obama just because he is black.
Speaking of politics. I was almost shocked at how Pres. Obama was handled after he was elected. People were shouting that this was a momentous occasion and that this was a victory for black america. Being born in the west in the 80s; I find it hard to believe that there was even a time when segregation existed. Its just hard to fathom for me. So in putting so much emphasis on the fact that he is a black man that was elected - I think is sort of too bad. We should be happy that he got elected not because of so pre-determined, unalterable characteristic of his parentage, but we should be rejoicing that he was elected for who he is; what kind of person he is, not the color of his skin.
If you want to shout out that Pres. Obama is going to change the country, don't site the fact that he is black, but the fact that he has good morals and is going to do good to the community for who he is. Is it great that segregation and differences in this country has fallen to the point where a black man has been elected president? Yes it is great... but I don't think its that great because why would he NOT be elected... It just seems like a no brainer - being black shouldn't make it easier for him to be president or not - it truly should not have altered the race. And I hope that this is the case. That people did not vote for or against him merely because of his skin color.
The lake is still partially frozen. We walked out on it yesterday at Presque Isle. We walked probably 200 yards out on to it past the rock barriers. If you want to see what solid ice looks like for several feet? that is the place. Don't worry about falling in till you pass the rocks (at least we didn't have any problems with it on Monday); but do be careful if you got out.

Maybe LECOM security is needed at Presque Isle.
When the Lake freezes early, and ice huts are all over the bay fishing, go out and slip and hurt your head. Otherwise, stay off the ice.
On the LAKE side (versus the bay), a good rule of thumb is NEVER go on that ice. The bay is protected from wave action and currents. The lake is not.
If you value life, stay off the ice, on the lake side of Presque Isle.
Obama would not be able to drink water in a public fountain, or use a men's room in the 1960's. Blacks were attacked by the police who should protect them. Attack dogs were unleashed and let go to chew at random. No restaurant for you if you were black, and no apology. Need a bathroom? Tough, if you were black. Racism does that and is still alive.
For insight, Google "Strange Fruit".
It is a song and described the swaying "fruit" in certain trees. Those were actually lynched Negroes, and the volume of lynchings made the song necessary and ring true.
My friend Julia was black (she died very young). She went in a restaurant with a group of whites. When the waitress came to her, others had ordered a meal. She was told:
"WE don't sell Negroes here!"....though a different "N" word was used.
Julia replied: "That's okay! I'll have chicken".
You have vision to see that LECOM should not be characterized by one student's behavior.
You need vision to see that an entire race has been mistreated since establishment of the United States (and before).
A two hundred year offset is not needed; just respect for the individual, no matter their color.
Our census of 2010 is zeroing in on Hispanic growth. How about the census just count PEOPLE as the law designed, for representation in Congress. The Census is racism of our day and the questions should be refused by one and all as intrusive. Let's just be Americans for a change.
